COMPLICATION BY LYNETTE YIADOM-BOAKYE

Lynette Yiadom–Boakye, Complication, 2013.

In Complication, four Black men stand shoulder to shoulder, their glances crossing in a quiet depiction of fraternity. By painting only Black people and placing them squarely within art history, Ghanian-British painter Lynette Yiadom-Boakye restores presence where it has long been denied. To be seen, centered, and held in full is, in itself, an act of love.
