“Traimelo Pa Tra,” Mexican-Californian DJ Gecko is our official song pick for June. This crunk cumbia remix is sonidero in spirit, infused with hip-hop and a beat that makes you want to get outside. The song in itself is a type of gathering call – Mexican sound-system culture, Colombian rhythm, and Black American influence meet on the dance floor. Around Juneteenth, it feels especially important to name how much diasporic culture around the world has been influenced (and continues to be influenced) by Black American culture, including the music that brings us together.
